Sub-Processes of Capacity Management

Some of the activities of Capacity Management are defined in the context of three sub-processes consisting of Business, Service and Component Capacity Management. Besides these, there will also be discussion of the operational activities required as well as the techniques that are utilized in various forms by the three different sub-processes.

Business Capacity Management:
* Manages Capacity to meet future business requirements for IT services
* Identifies changes occurring in the business to assess how they might impact capacity and performance of IT services
* Plans and implements sufficient capacity in an appropriate timescale
* Should be included in Change Management and Project management activities.

Service Capacity Management
* Focuses on managing ongoing service performance as detailed in the Service Level Agreements
* Establishes baselines and profiles of use of Services, including all components and sub-services that affect the user experience
* Reports to the Service Level Manager and Service Owner regarding end-to-end service capacity, performance and utilization.

Component Capacity Management
* Identifies and manages each of the individual components of the IT Infrastructure (e.g. CPU, memory, disks, network bandwidth, server load)
* Evaluates new technology and how it might be leveraged to benefit the organization
* Balances loads across resources for optimal performance of services.

All three sub-processes collate their data and for use by other ITSM processes, primarily Service Level Management and Financial Management.

Getting Clued in to ECDL and ICDl

There are two ways for you to gain a certification in computer skills, and that is through the ECDL and the ICDL. Of course, these two are different but are also strikingly familiar. To begin, ECDL stands for European Computer Driving License, which is based in Europe. In Europe, the ECDL provides certification when it comes to basic information technology competence. It consists of different modules that range from the most basic theory in information technology all the way to adeptly using the Internet. Such a scheme is backed up and supported by both governments as well as the local computer societies that are present in each country that is a member of the organization.

The ICDL, on the other hand, stands for the International Computer Driving License. This actually originates from the European Computer Driving License, but in this case has been expanded to include other countries beyond those belonging to the European nations. In the International Computer Driving License, citizens from countries such as the United States of America, Australia, South Africa, Canada as well as Zimbabwe (and many more, of course) can also gain their certifications as well.

Both organizations are non profit in nature and stress the recognition of computer literacy for many individuals. The ECDL and the ICDL are globally recognized for competence standards in Information and Communications Technology as well as digital literacy certification. If you find yourself in any of the countries that are part of the ECDL or the ICDL and you think you are competent, try to get certified in order to boost your employability.

Steps in Building a Drupal Forum

Online forums are great additions to any website.  By building and setting up an online forum, administrators could create a community that will increase user engagement on their site.  Besides that, forum sites usually get top search engine rankings.  That is why most community websites make it a point to build and nurture a very active forum for their users.

The Drupal content management system, which is an open source framework using the PHP programming language, can be a very good tool for creating online forums.  Drupal CMS is not just a website building and management tool.  It can also be used for designing Web 2.0 sites because of its enhanced web services and functionalities.

A Drupal forum is one such service which can be easily added to a website.  There is a specific forum module in the Drupal framework which can be activated by the administrator.  Once activated, the Drupal forum will be ready for editing or they can be simply left alone and allow the default configuration to work.  Administrators of the site then can set up the access rights on the Drupal forum in order to shield it from malicious users.

Web administrators however can also customize the Drupal forum if they have enough knowledge in PHP language.  Specifically, they can change the themes and designs of the forum.  They can also set additional functionalities on the forum and increase its security features.  Once the Drupal forum is live, the website can surely reap its concrete benefits.
